Methods in Genetic Epidemiology

Abstract

This talk will focus on two statistical methods commonly used in genetic epidemiology studies: segregation analysis and multivariate survival analysis. Segregation analysis is used to model patterns of inheritance in families by fitting models consistant with biologic mechanisms. Multivariate survival analysis model predictors of time to event, while adjusting for the clustering effects of families. The underlying theory for these two methods will be presented and discussed. Application of these methods will be demonstrated using prostate cancer and simulated data.
