August 21-25, 2012

Hosted by the

Department of Statistics

Center for Theoretical Biological Physics

Gulf Coast Consortia for Bioinformatics

at

Rice University, Houston, Texas

This conference will focus on emerging trends within the field of systems biology with a focus on the statistical methodologies and probability models that are most valued within the field. Special attention will be given to emerging challenges in systems biology, such as exploring the role of cancer stem cells in tumor development and progression, characterizing the systems pathways in inflammation which trigger sepsis, models of antibiotic resistance, and many other challenges in genetics and evolution.

Conference activities will be held in the BioSciences Research Collaborative building on the campus of Rice University. The first four days (August 21-24) include symposia and a poster session, and the final day (August 25) symposia with roundatble discussion ("break-out sessions"). Lodging will be provided by the Hilton Houston Plaza / Medical Center Hotel.
