Homework Assignments

Homework 0 - Statistical Process Control (SPC)  Due 1/16/20 - Counts for 1 point final course credit. This exercises your ability to synthesize and summarize, your ability to write, and to follow directions.

Based on Thompson and Koronacki's prefaces and what you know about Lean vs. Six Sigma, provide an overall summary of SPC as compared and contracsted with Quality Control and how it fits into the overall quality landscape. You will need to look into the historical background on Pareto, Shewhart and Deming. Explain how statistical techniques can quantify the objectives of continual process improvement, and how the principles of continuous optimization make SPC as described by Thompson not a backward-looking process.

In order to receive credit, you must submit a hard copy of your paper and also upload your paper to the appropriate assignment area on Canvas. To receive full credit, your paper must be well-written as something you might submit to a professional audience. I.e., poorly-written papers with typos, punctuation and grammar errors will only earn partial credit if any. Your report should be approximately 1-2 pages in length, and be prepared under Professional Standards.
