Your Laptop and the Wireless Network

If you have a laptop, you can either apply for a static IP address (if your office has a free network port or you can bring in a router or ethernet hub) or make use the wireless network. Duncan Hall is proud to be one of the first buildings at Rice to provide a wireless network. To use the wireless network, your laptop must have a wireless network card. Some new models of laptops have build-in wireless card. If your laptop does not have one, you can buy a PCMICA wireless network card under $50. All you need to do is follow the instructions of Rice Wireless Network Project http://www.rice.edu/IT/network/wireless/index.html to register your card and then enjoy the freedom of wireless networking.
