Bianca Rodriguez
RUSIS 2008
University of Texas - San Antonio

My name is Bianca Rodriguez and I was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. I love my
fiance, my family, my dog, and the San Antonio Spurs (of course). When not busy with
school work I like to watch movies, listen to music, and hang out with my friends. I am
currently a Senior at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) majoring in
Mathematics. My favorite classes have been my proof classes and Geometry. I had an
internship at the National Science Foundation last summer (2007) where I learned about
REUs and Graduate school. I attended the 2007 SACNAS national conference and found Rice
University Summer In Statistics (RUSIS). As a granddaugter of immigrant grandparents, my
parents have always told me to do better for myself than they did to honor the sacrifice
my grandparents took for us. Because the best way to improve myself is with education,
my ultimate goal is to attend graduate school and get a PHD. I came here with the
intention of seeing if I want to go to Rice, to see if I like Statistics, and gain
experience with research. RUSIS has helped me accomplish these goals and more. I see the
important role that Statistics plays and am seriously considering it as a career option.
Before I came to RUSIS, I had little exposure to Statistics and no computer programing
knowledge but that is not longer the case because of this program. I have made some
wonderful friends and have had great experiences with them here. I have loved being here
experiencing everything Houston and RUSIS has to offer.
