Microarrays and Data Quality: Some Case Studies
ABSTRACT: DNA microarrays are wonderful tools for measuring the relative
expression levels of thousands of genes in a cell sample at once.
Using microarrays, we can identify differential patterns of gene
expression between tumor and normal cells, watch the cell cycle
evolve through time, and possibly identify gene membership in
regulatory pathways. Well, that's the theory.
In this talk, I will present the results of some problems with real
data that have been encountered as MD Anderson has set up its array
facility. These will range from calibration (dilution experiments)
to measurement (automatic artifact removal) to a basic analysis
(some of the things that we report for a given array). I will finish
by discussing some of our current active questions.
The focus of the talk will be primarily on methods for analysis,
so I won't be identifying specific genes this time.
