Required Text:    Introduction to the Practice of Statistics, by David S. Moore and George P. McCabe

Software:    The statistical package Minitab will be implemented for this course. A trial version of Minitab for Windows 95/98/NT can be downloaded free of charge from the official Minitab web page http://www.minitab.com/. Just click on "downloads" at the bottom of the page!  (Note:  This free trial is good for 30 days only!!)


Course Description:    This course is designed to introduce the student to some statistical methods useful for basic data analysis.  Emphasis will be placed on ideas, concepts, appropriate application of methods, and interpretation of  computer-assisted data analysis in lab sessions.



Grading:    20%    Homework (Due on Wednesdays: 1/30, 2/6, 2/27, 3/13, 3/20, 4/10, 4/17)
                        20%    Two In-class Midterms (2/13 and 3/27)
                        20%    Weekly Lab Assignments
                        25%    Comprehensive Final  (Take Home)
                        15%    Final Project

Make up midterms can be given only for emergency or medical reasons. Overdue assignments can only be accepted for a good reason. However, the instructor reserves the right to discount part or all of the credit for any late homework.



Laboratories: You are required to sign up for a 2 hour lab session.  Labs are expected to be completed by the end of your assigned session.  Labs may be worked outside of the lab session.  Lab assignments should be turned in to your assigned labbie by the end of the session.  Labs will be posted the Friday before the scheduled session.

Lab location: The Labs are in the "Gardiner Symonds Digital Teaching Center 2," Duncan Hall 1020,  located outside the main Duncan Hall.

Computer Accounts: You will need an owlnet account.  After establishing one, go to www.owlnet.edu and go to Change Pc/ Mac password. You will need this password for the Symonds lab.
