The new students computing tutorials will be hold on Aug 19st and 20nd, 2004, at DH1049 and Symonds Lab II (next to Duncan hall). Here is the pdf version of the agenda.

Day 1: introduction

generation introduction to computing facilities, accounts, software etc.

Day 1: windows software demonstration

demonstration of statistical software under windows.

Day 1: Unix for bioinformaticists

Why we need to know Unix. Demonstration of Unix commands, text processing tools, emacs and perl.

Day 1: Basic Unix Commands

A quick tour to basic Unix commands. If you are new to Unix, this is your first and important step. A pdf version of the tutorial is available here.

Day 1: C-shell

A brief C-shell tutorial. You will learn some of the most useful features of C-shell including command line editing/completion, history, aliases etc. A pdf version of the tutorial is available.

Day 1: introduction to S-Plus

First course on S-Plus. Part 1, Part 2. Pdf versions are here: part 1, part 2.

Day 2: Basic Emacs

Introduction to emacs.pdf version of the tutorial. ESS tutorial is also available pdf version.

Day 2: Latex and Lyx
