This session is intended to communicate the
fundamental concepts of the Six Sigma initiative, the results which
several corporations have achieved utilizing it, and also to objectively
analyze why it has been so successful. The session will begin with a
brief introduction to Six Sigma, and then review the experiences of
Allied Signal, General Electric, Polaroid, and Motorola. A discussant
will then analyze the success of these initiatives from the viewpoint of
Statistical Thinking, i.e., identify key attributes of Statistical
Thinking which are routinely applied in Six Sigma. Advice will be given
to organizations considering implementing Six Sigma. Lastly, time will
be allowed for questions from the attendees.
